Edwardian J W Benson Half Hunter Pocket Watch
circa 1905 In Full Working Order.
Case
: Gunmetal case in good order with all closures snap shut, are tight and secure with all hinges in good working order. Press the crown in, the front cover springs open to reveal the watch face. Gunmetal colouring has worn away in places, but mainly on the rear cover. Open the rear cover to reveal an engraved Movement cover having the following information; By Warrant TD H.M. The late Queen Victoria Examined by J W Benson, 62 & 64Luggate Hill, London. The movement cover is in excellent condition. the bezel is of white metal, and is in very good condition. There is a very little light corrosion in places on the openings of the covers, nothing major. the case has a serial number of 1765541 of which the movement enclosed has a sequential serial number suggesting they are a match.
Bow Assembly : in good condition with the bow being secure.
Crystal : clear and free from surface scratches.
Dial
: is in near MINT having a couple of feint hairline cracks present to the 10:00 and1:00 regions. Dial is white with black Arabic numerals and sub second dial present. All hands are present and are in excellent condition with all hands being blue steel in colour.
Movement
: 3/4 split plate 15 jewelled Longines Lever movement with split bimetallic balance with breguet hairspring running the full length of the wind, and keeping good time, +/- 1 minutes a day or better. The watch has been fully serviced with the balance having a good working action in all positions. The gilding remains in excellent condition and is free from any corrosion and scratches, very nice. A serial number of 1765542 is present putting the manufacture of the watch around 1905. Watch is crown wound and lever set, the lever is situated in the 4:00 of which is pulled out to set the watch.
