TOLKIEN, J. R. R. : THE HOBBIT
George Allen & Unwin
Eighth Impression
1956
This is a rare early edition of The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien. This copy is in lovely condition but it the boards have been laminated hence preserving its wonderful condition. Internally clean - it represents an opportunity to acquire an early Hobbit in clean condition at a fraction of the cost where it unlaminated. Its always quite exciting to see only a few rows of publishing information on an early Hobbit - as is the case here.
Written for J.R.R. Tolkien’s own children, The Hobbit met with instant critical acclaim when it was first published in 1937. Now recognized as a timeless classic, this introduction to the hobbit Bilbo Baggins, the wizard Gandalf, Gollum, and the spectacular world of Middle-earth recounts of the adventures of a reluctant hero, a powerful and dangerous ring, and the cruel dragon Smaug the Magnificent (Source : Goodreads)
8vo. Hardback. Original green boards as issued with black titles & illustration by Tolkien himself. Laminated to protect them and it has. Laminated with clear laminate folded over onto map endpapers. Hence apart from some mild lightening to spine - beautifully preserved. Internally complete with no inscriptions. The very occasional light handling mark o/w lovely fresh and unmolested.
Basically a great opportunity to pick up a very early Hobbit at a fraction of the cost with the text and boards preserved - hence a collectible proposition in itself for the collector on limited funds. Its genuinely a nice condition item.
