WHY THIS GAME MATTERS:

Night Trap is one of the most infamous and collectible games in video 

game history. Originally developed for a Hasbro FMV console in 1987, 

it was ultimately released as a Sega CD launch title in 1992. The game's 

live-action full motion video and adult content made it the centerpiece 

of the landmark 1993 U.S. Senate hearings on video game violence — the 

very hearings that led directly to the creation of the ESRB rating system.

Sega was forced to cease production of Night Trap in early 1994 following 

congressional pressure, making surviving complete copies — especially 

the red box first print — genuinely scarce and highly sought after by 

collectors. Featuring Dana Plato (Diff'rent Strokes) in a key role.
