Despite “Blades” being the most popular choice of the 500 proposed names submitted for the new hockey franchise in San Jose, “Sharks” – the second most selected moniker – was chosen, with the club's first official NHL season occurring in 1991-92.
We have here a rare Sharks jersey from the team’s inaugural season, with this example worn by Defenseman Neil Wilkinson.
A Maska Air-Knit label and size “54” fly tag grace the collar, with embroidered CCM and NHL crests over the reverse bottom hem.
Styled with the Sharks team crest with vinyl detailing that was in use until 1997, the V-neck has been accented with white tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers with black trim, with matching alternate crests over each shoulder.
A rubberized Custom Crafted crest is also present over the reverse bottom hem, with the important NHL 75th anniversary crest over the right breast.
Game-wear is consistent on the sweater and includes a bunch of slash/puck marks, with additional marks and light wear to the team crest.
