Here is a beautiful Technics SL-3 DC servo control belt drive turntable. The unit has always been in a non-smoking environment! This classic and very desirable MID- HIGH end audiophile turntable is in great operating condition, plays superbly, and is very clean. This beauty is cosmetically and sonically outstanding; there are some very minor scratches on the unit, but you must look close to see them. Overall, the dustcover is in great condition with very minor surface scuffs that are consistent with a 40+ year-old Hi-Fi component. Cosmetically, this SL-3 is one of the cleaner ones I have seen. The plinth is in excellent condition; the table and tonearm are in outstanding condition. A new platter drive belt has been installed, all knobs and buttons on the unit have been lubricated and cleaned.
The Turntable has been cleaned, re-lubed where necessary, adjusted, tested, and fully detailed!
But, regardless how good the turntable, you still need a quality Phono cartridge to extract and deliver the quality sound from the vinyl, so a turntable will only sound as good as its cartridge. This is an area of neglect for most! This unit has been matched with a NEW high-quality AUDIO-TECHNICA AT81CP P-Mount Dual Moving Magnet Phono Cartridge.

DC Servo – Controlled Motor – The motor in the Technics SL-3 turntable combines high elements with a FG (frequency generator) servo-controlled DC motor with IC. The high elements, production engineered by Technics, are used to switch the polarity in the motor. Since purely electronic communication is used for switching the motor drive circuit, harmful noise is not generated, and smooth, even rotation can be obtained with high durability. By combining precision characteristics of Rumble at -70 dB, and 045% wow and flutter have been allowed
The Highly Sensitive Straight – Shaped Tonearm – Highly sensitive angular contact bearings are used for both vertical and horizontal-axis movement of the tonearm, so that there is minimum play and friction. High sensitivity and durability are obtained. An independent tonearm lift device is incorporated in the automatic mechanism, the stylus can be raised easily even during playing without damage to the stylus or record.
Panel Layout Facilitates Easy Operation – Soft-touch push-buttons, flush with the front panel allow maximum convenience with a minimum of intrusion. These full electronically-controlled, fully-automatic turntables are designed with TECHNICS state-of-the-art technology. Only a feather touch of the operation switch is required to activate the tonearm, start play back and return the tonearm after play back. In the repeat mode or during playback, the auto-cut function can be actuated and manual operations can be performed.
Cabinet Design for Sound Quality – The power source transformer and operating mechanisms are all mounted in the solidly built cabinet, while the platter and tonearm are kept floating above the cabinet by the floating suspension, contributing to the improvement of the tone quality. External vibrations are doubly damped by the insulators to obtain a very high resistance against acoustic feedback [“howling”].

The Audio-Technica AT81CP P-Mount Dual moving Magnet Phono Cartridge is a model within the P-Mount Series representing one of Audio-Technica's finest P-mount mountable Phono cartridges. The P-Mount Series are best known for their excellent musicality: Warm & mellow sounding – very dynamic – excellent separation - nice tight natural sounding bass [not boomy at all] – Highs are crisp yet never sounding metallic or artificial. The sound stage is really where the Audio-Technica AT81CP shines. While listening with one’s eyes closed, you actually hear not only stereo but a distinct three dimensional sound stage where the musicians and singers are positioned as in a concert.
The AT81CP Phono cartridge uses a highly polished spherical diamond stylus to extract record groove information with precision and with a minimum of wear. Audio-Technica uses a carbon fiber-reinforced ABS tube cantilever (the hollow rod that extends from the cartridge to the diamond tip), for low mass and low resonance. The AT81CP reproduces a wide frequency response of 20Hz – 20kHz with low distortion. It offers excellent tracking at 1.0 - 1.5 grams, saving your LPs from undue wear.
