This innovative and visually impressive 2022 three-dimensional coin marks the 100th anniversary of the greatest archaeological discovery of the 20th century – the tomb of King Tut. Tutankhamun’s sarcophagus held not one but three coffins preserving the young king’s body. While the two outer coffins were made of wood, the innermost coffin was made of intricately crafted solid gold. Struck in five ounces of fine silver with an overlay of 24 kart gold, this impressive large format coin re-creates the solid gold coffin of King Tutankhamun, with the addition of the legal tender coin elements making this a unique coin collectible.
Mintage is limited to just 620 pieces, alluding to the tomb number KV62 assigned to the tomb in the Egyptian Valley of the Kings. The coin is issued by Solomon Islands with a face value of $10 and included the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. HST/GST exempt.
