Auique and beautifully crafted occasional table, cleverly repurposed from a high-quality vintage chess board box. This piece combines the practical storage of a traditional chess casket with the functionality of an elegant side table.
The Box Top:
Materials: The board features a striking inlaid design, likely honey walnut and a contrasting lighter wood (possibly boxwood or satinwood) which has aged to a beautiful golden hue.
Storage: The lid lifts away to reveal a storage compartment, perfect for keeping chess pieces or other curios.
Interior: The box is fully lined with its original (or period-correct) green felt, which is in in clean condition.
The Legs:
Construction: At some stage in its history, this box has been elevated onto four solid oak legs. The conversion has been done to a good standard, creating a sturdy and level "occasional table" height. The oak grain provides a lovely organic contrast to the refined walnut marquetry of the top.
Condition & Patina:
The wood shows a desirable aged patina consistent with a vintage piece.
