Alfagrog is one of the most effective media filters for ponds and tanks. It is extremely porous, filled with tiny air pockets. This gives the stones a huge surface area for helpful bacteria to colonise whilst also acting as a physical filter for water passing through.
The Bacteria Balls contain concentrates of helpful pond bacteria which release over 2-3 weeks as the balls deteriorate. The bacteria will use the porous media to colonise, the bacteria works to reduce toxins. algae and ammonia in the water, creating a balanced eco-system in your pond.
Best placed in flowing water, the stone allows for helpful bacteria to colonise whilst also naturally filtering water.
In ponds with filter systems, the mesh bag allows for easy placement and collection of the stone from the filter. In ponds without filters, the stones can be placed individually, or the bag can be submerged close to the pump to allow water to be drawn through the stones.
The stones range in size from around 1.5" (4cm) to 2" (5cm)
Always clean lightly with pond /tank water to avoid removing existing bacteria colonies.
