So called "Cup coins" are Byzantine coins issued between roughly ninth and 13th centuries. They are somewhat unique and odd. They were made bent (Like a cup) and were made this way for stacking many together. It must not have been an overly successful experiment as other countries didn't follow its example as you don't see coins from other places made this way.
