A superb manuscript work. In a fine hand to the recto of each leaf only. With fine illuminated initials throughout.

A handsome work, with documented provenance of the writer including the completion date of the work at the close.

A very fine theological work for the discerning collector.
 

William Crighton Maclean [1807-1900].

Born 18th Sept. 1807 in Clapham, Surrey, England. Christened 28th Oct. 1807 in Holy Trinity, Clapham, Surrey, England. Died 19th May 1900 in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England. Buried at New Cemetery, Kitchener Road, Great Yarmouth. William Crighton Maclean, Esq. F.R.G.S was Collector of Customs in Great Yarmouth. His is said to be a descendant of the Macleans of Cappurnach. A Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and the Royal Historical Society.

He was a prolific collector judging by the sales catalogues from his estate sales in 1900 at Christies, London and Samuel Aldred & Son, Great Yarmouth. This estate was left to Edward Pitt Youell with a probate value of £‎5084 19s 10d.

 
Bound in contemporary half leather with marbled boards.

Raised bands with gilt lines and décor to the spine.
Lettered in gilt.

A attractive binding with only minor marks or rubbing commensurate with age.
