Japanese Wooden Tansu Box
This is a small, antique Japanese tansu (portable storage chest).
Tansu were traditionally used for storing daily items, clothing, or valuables in Japanese homes.
This particular style, with a dark finish and iron hardware, is often associated with the Meiji period (late 19th to early 20th century).
The dark, textured appearance is a result of a traditional black lacquer finish that has developed a unique patina and characteristic "wabi-sabi" aesthetic over time.
It features two small upper drawers with round pulls and three larger lower drawers with crescent-shaped bail handles.
Measure 10x8.25x8 inches
Today, these are often used for storing small items like jewelry, stationery, or sewing supplies
See photos for best description. All drawers can be removed, but the bottom drawer sticks about half way opened
