KARL LAGERFELD (1933–2019)

Original technical sketch by Karl Lagerfeld for LESAGE, notarized (KLFW16DR57)

Medium: Ink and pencil on thick bamboo paper
Dimensions: 24 × 34 cm
Condition: Excellent

This technical drawing was created by Karl Lagerfeld in 2015 for the 2016 collection and was intended for the embroidery atelier Lesage, the legendary haute couture embroidery house responsible for executing the principal embroidery work for Karl Lagerfeld’s collections at CHANEL.

A technical drawing is a professional working sketch, produced not for visual presentation but for practical execution. It defines the construction of the garment, its proportions, and the precise placement of decorative elements, serving as a primary visual guide for the atelier’s artisans. Within the context of haute couture, such drawings are essential documents of both the creative and production processes.

The sketch is executed in ink. The Lesage atelier stamp appears in the upper left corner, confirming its use within the embroidery workshop.

Several sketches from the 2012–2017 period were rendered on thick bamboo paper measuring 24 × 34 cm, a support favored by the designer for its refined surface and durability—qualities that echo the timeless craftsmanship of CHANEL’s couture.
