ANTIQUE 1897 Man’s Handwritten DIARY - New York Interesting Anecdotes - Clean

Description

Hardcover personal journal diary from a young man, A.C Koonz,  living in New York, outside of Albany, in 1897.

People are described as industrious and very hard working:  picking & loading the apples, fixing the sleigh & henhouse, preparing the team of horses, etc.  Also described as quite social with lots of people coming and going, many staying the night.

Has its’ share of drama:

All of Mak's hams were stolen last night from Mrs. Lamorean’s smoke house.

Bought - on sale - hair oil cans, a barley fork, some blue vitrol for spraying fruit trees and a keg part-full of shingle nails, some dishes & a pair of horse blankets.

Charley Green knocked his father down & threatened him then struck Isaac. . . knocked him down & kicked him until
it is thought he will die.

John got mad about the time they came because we wanted him to carry water for horse & girl - I paid him and he left in a rage.

While at church yesterday, the cows broke loose & two got in barn and eat a good deal of ground feed.  This morning they were very sick.  One died. . .

Nice clean legible condition, intact binding, attractive cover.  Entries missing on the following dates:  January 3-22; April 24-25; May 26; May 28-December 24; December 26-31.

Included at the back is his bookkeeping for the year.
