From the basement into the world
What do musicians do at a time when they can't perform because everything is closed?
Aki Bosse locked himself in his basement studio and made new music. In 2021 he will present his eighth studio album: “Sunnyside”.
And “new music” must be taken literally here. Because the German indie pop-rock singer and guitarist has managed to sound new without pandering to the zeitgeist.
And therein lies his great talent: Bosse moves and grows over time while maintaining his roots. A tree? No. A pop musician.
“Sunnyside” shows the old boss who outgrows himself here. Synthesizers, drum loops and basslines sound naturally alongside guitars. The new album is casual and warm, it's danceable and close, it doesn't exclude, but embraces with a big and.
This “and” also runs through the lyrics: On the one hand, Bosse dares to be more confident than ever, but also to tell even more about himself and his loved ones. In the basement studio he had a lot of time to think about what is important now, what needs to become even more important and how we should live.
“The Last Dance” deals with the transience of fleeting but special moments, as we have all noticed over the last year. This transience can also be found in a vulnerable, intimate declaration of love to his father. “Paradise” sings about his utopia of a better world in which all people should be treated equally, and hope shines through in the title song “Sunnyside”.
On the 27th The album will be released in August. The time is ripe, we have to get out. Get out of the basement studio, the home office and the struggle. Over the bridge, there is the exciting, the new life and there is also exciting and new music from Aki Bosse.
