Möli (Laysan Albatross) are one of Hawaii's most mesmerizing sea birds, not only for their massive size, but also their spiritual meaning to Hawaiian culture. They are the kinolau (physical manifestation) of Lono, the God of peace and rain. Hundred thousands of them are found nesting on the northern Hawaiian island of Laysan (Kamole/ Kauõ) and Midway Atoll (Kuaihelani / Pihemanu). Since the 70's they have also expanded to nesting on Kaua'i and other southern Hawaiian islands. The photo and video were taken at Ka'ena point on O'ahu, one of their breeding grounds. They mate for life and often live up to 50 years. They spend a lot of their lives at sea, foraging for squid on the oceans surface, rarely touching land until they return to their breeding grounds. They return during the Makahiki season late Oct or early November. Our Moli print is in honor of this meaningful bird.
