People no longer believed in it
In 2010, progressive rock great Porcupine Tree said goodbye with an acoustic show and the four musicians went their separate ways. In particular, frontman Steven Wilson and drummer Gavin Harrison remained present and heavily active in the music world on experimental paths, so it seemed clear: As unfortunate as you may find it, these two pioneering spirits have simply outgrown the band.
In the fall of 2021, Porcupine Tree had long since quietly gotten together again, with the exception of ex-bassist Colin Edwin, to complete the production of their new album "Closure Continuation." And to make it fun to make her social media followers rub their eyes with an obscure sign of life.
This year the new album "Closure Continuation" by the British experimental rockers was released, and with their seven new songs they know how to convince that Porcupine Tree still has a lot to say artistically. The first number “Harridan” should be mentioned here as a sample tip: a jagged bass intro and a delicate but driving drum groove that could only come from Gavin Harrison open and carry the eight-minute song. Keyboardist Richard Barbieri enriches the atmosphere psychedelically through masterful work on the synthesizer.
“Herd Culling” also impresses as a confused progressive rock number that is typical of PT, with intricate melodies, playful rhythms and an eruptive howling chorus. However, with its breathtaking dynamics, the number is likely to command the admiration of even the most adamant skeptics of the music police.
Frontman and producer Steven Wilson proves that, in addition to his musical know-how, he also has exorbitant technical know-how. »Closure Continuation« combines a sound spectrum of nuances from silky drum ghost notes and whispering synth arpeggios with thick basses and rolling guitar pads, so that in these soundscapes it can almost be difficult to believe your own ears here and there.
»Closure Continuation« can now be ordered as CD, LP and limited special edition.
