To Falco's 40th On his birthday in 1997, "Out of the Dark" was played live for the first time in his adopted homeland - the Dominican Republic. Anyone who heard the song before its later release could hardly have imagined how much the threatening sound symbiosis of music and voice in conjunction with the dark lines of lyrics would resonate to this day - over 20 years after Falco's death.
Although the Austrian completed the song several years earlier, one might think that it was only written right before his tragic car accident in 1998. A song lyric that almost sounds more like a prophecy from a clairvoyant. So prescient that to this day it serves as the basis for all speculation surrounding the circumstances of Falco's accidental death. This should be countered by the fact that the song was at least partly written by producer Torsten Börger and Falco himself stated a story about escaping into drugs, and not thoughts of death or suicide, as the overarching theme of the song. In his last interview, Falco said: “Out of the Dark is autobiographical - and then again it's not. It's about drugs. I wrote the text from the perspective of someone desperate who is being taken over by the drug, without me being an addict myself.” – Falco in an interview with Bunte magazine (1998)
25 years after Falco's death, "Out Of The Dark" is released as a limited 10" vinyl edition (color: Glow In The Dark Transparent).
