Vintage 1940s 36" Wedgewood Gas Stove - “Used By Rock Legends”

Original “Treehouse” Stove from The Alley Rehearsal Studio, North Hollywood, CA

Offered here is an original white 1940s Wedgewood gas stove with strong, documented rock & roll provenance.

This stove was the primary kitchen range in the upstairs “Treehouse” apartment at The Alley, the legendary North Hollywood rehearsal studio tucked behind a burger joint on Lankershim Blvd in the NoHo Arts District. The Alley has been described as a “golden-era rock n’ roll Mecca” that quietly hosted some of the finest musical talent of the last four decades. A documentary project on Alley Music Studios has been announced, highlighting its history and “who’s who” roster of headline acts since the 1970s.

Noted in a signed letter from the former business partner of the studio:

• The “Treehouse” was the second story living quarters above the studio’s basement room – a self-contained apartment with living room, dining area, kitchen, two bedrooms, one bathroom, and access to a rooftop patio.

• From the earliest days of the Treehouse being used as musician housing in the 1970s, the kitchen contained this white 1940s Wedgewood gas stove.

• The stove remained in place as the Treehouse’s original and only cooking range from the 1970s until it was removed and sold.

• The Treehouse served as long-term / short-term lodging for visiting artists rehearsing and recording at The Alley.

Artists connected with the Treehouse and this stove include (among others):

Linda Ronstadt

Little Feat

Jackson Browne

Ozzy Osbourne

Michael Jackson

Prince

Red Hot Chili Peppers

System of a Down

Alice In Chains

Randy California

Gram Parsons

These names line up with published artist lists and documentary materials for Alley Music Studios, which highlight clients such as The Eagles, Little Feat, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, Red Hot Chili Peppers, System Of A Down, Ozzy Osbourne, Gram Parsons and many more as long-time users of the studio.

On February 6, 2017, this stove was removed from the Treehouse and sold in person at The Alley to the current owner. There were no dealers or intermediaries; this was a direct studio-to-collector transfer. The stove has been preserved with all original parts intact since that sale.

In addition, I retain several photographs and short video recordings documenting the stove in its original location in the Treehouse apartment at The Alley prior to removal (provided by Eric); these can be provided upon request. I will attach the available photos from its original location starting at photo #16.
