Black Celebration is Depeche Mode's fifth studio album and is considered one of the band's darkest and most atmospheric works. All eleven songs were written by Martin Gore, and he also sings four songs himself - A Question of Lust, Sometimes, It doesn't matter and World Full of Nothing.
With the album title “Black Celebration”, Depeche Mode took a wrong turn. Despite its dark nature, the songs on the record are neither about occult acts nor about black masses. Instead, Martin Gore writes about feelings and the dark side of life, which also includes a large portion of boredom. At the end of a black day, we can still celebrate that it is finally over.
In her home country, “Black Celebration” reached number 3 in the UK charts. In Germany the album climbed to number two and in Switzerland it even reached number one in the charts.
