"The Pains of Being Pure at Heart" is an indie rock band that was founded in New York in 2007.

Through a self-published EP in 2007 and a number of enthusiastic singles such as "Everything with You" and "Kurt Cobain's Cardigan", the band developed an extremely loyal underground fan base. After the publication of her self-titled debut album in 2009, this recognition was also recognized by respected cultural role models such as the New York Times ("Sensitive and Best", Best of 2009), Pitchfork (Best New Music, Best of 2009), "addictive pop gold", Best of 2009) and The Nme ("Pure Indiepop should be taken" of 2009) shared.

With regard to the future, Spin Belong chose one of the upcoming "winter albums that are most important", and PitchFork awarded the single "Heart in your Heartbreak" the title "Best New Music" on the grounds: "It is immediately appealing in the same way as her debut."
