OWN YOUR PIECE OF HISTORY!
This 100 year old sheet of German postage stamps is a great example of Germany's "Hyperinflation" era, a period of less than two years from early 1921 to late 1923 when inflation raged out of control and the German mark went from 90 marks to the dollar in 1921 skyrocketing to a peak of 4.2 TRILLION marks to the dollar in November 1923. This is reflected in the price of a regular domestic postage stamp climbing from about 60 "pfennigs" in 1921 to 20 marks in January 1923 up to 50 BILLION marks in November 1923. Historians suggest that hyperinflation and the resulting economic turmoil sowed the seeds for the rise of national socialism in Germany and ultimately to World War Two.
Notwithstanding the economic turmoil, the post office stayed in business, issuing stamps and delivering mail. To keep up with the constant changes in rates, sheets of stamps were regularly overprinted with the new rates.
The sheet on the image is the one you will receive - NO STOCK IMAGES!
A note about the sheet's condition: this sheet is over 100 years old and made at a time when keeping costs low and productivity up were critical, resulting in a more fragile sheet than earlier or later issues, or comparable US stamps. While the sheet is intact, weak perfs, perf seps, and selvage tears are fairly common and are factored into the listing price.
Any other issues will be visible on the image or noted in the condition description above.
