This vintage 30+ year old black face Sony STR-AV270X is a beautiful piece of yesteryear. The unit is very clean inside and out and it has always been in a non-smoking environment plus this baby sounds absolutely superb with reserve power. This classic and very desirable Sony unit is in great operating condition. It is cosmetically outstanding; the front face is clean and sharp. There are a few scratches on the unit, but you must look close to see them. The front glass is clear, all lights light, all buttons, and knobs have been cleaned.
The unit has been cleaned, serviced, tested, and fully detailed – Everything works as it should!
Oh, let’s not forget about the fantastic phono section, because it truly is a welcome addition. You won't have to spend the extra money on a separate phono pre-amp, because one is built into the unit. The amplifier boast a Dynamic power output of 110 watts and a continuous power output of 50 watts per channel min RMS at 8 ohms, from 10 Hertz to 50,000 Hertz with no more than 0.08% total harmonic distortion.
THE TUNER SECTION:
The major feature of the FM tuner section of the Sony STR- AV270X is the PPL Quartz Locked Digital Synthesizer System which detects ant difference in frequency between IF signal and the reference signal generated by the crystal oscillator. A total of 30 FM/AM stations can be memorized in any desired sequence.
The FM MPX Decoder uses the design principle of the 'phase lock loop' applied in the circuit. It has no inductances or capacitances which cause phase shifts and distortions. Any phase dislocation that might occur is automatically detected and compensated by a loop circuit. This results in an unprecedented high degree of stability irrespective of temperature or humidity changes.
Also, the STR- AV270X Tuner section amplifier 2-stage front end incorporates a 5-gang variable capacitor and three dual gate MOS FETS. A capacitance controlled double tuned circuit is inserted between the RF amplifier stages. Those features produce impressive characteristics such as usable sensitivity of 11.2 dBf, separation of 45 dB at 1 kHz, and a selectivity of 60 dB at 400 kHz.
