Remarkable late 19th.c. scrap work folding screen or room divider
c.1890. Three 28" x 76½" arch-top panels with solid mahogany frames and
brass bi-fold hinges allowing the screen to be arranged as preferred.
Very densely worked decoration to both sides made of scores coloured
illustrations on paper carefully cut and glued into place against a
black ground. The illustrations used make an interesting reflection of
Victorian popular tastes featuring images of childhood and lady’s
fashions, horses, dogs, cats, folk scenes, a sailor with the Union Jack
as well as humorous caricatures, exotic animals and flowers. Some minor
wear and repairs, generally very good condition, cleaned and restored in
our workshops.
