A museum‑quality 1910’s handcarved liftarm lighter, crafted with exceptional skill and preserved in outstanding condition. This early petrol briquet represents the finest period of pre‑Zippo lighter production, when each piece was individually handmade and decorated by master craftsmen.
The lighter features a built‑in sterling silver case with deep, beautifully carved floral patterns — a level of silversmith work rarely seen today. The mechanism and the main body are not sterling silver, but the silver casing is fully hallmarked (see last photo) and has been acid‑tested. The natural patina highlights the age and craftsmanship of the piece.
These early liftarm lighters were luxury accessories in the 1910–1920’s era, often carried by officers, aristocrats or wealthy travelers. The elegant contours, the hand‑carved decoration and the classic liftarm mechanism make this example a highly desirable collector’s item.
Perfect antique condition. The lighter works well, but is currently out of petrol and firestone. No damage, no repairs, no missing parts. The carved silver surface is crisp and clean, with beautiful patina. Please examine the photos for details.

Lighters with flint wheels did not exist in the 19th century. Baron Karl Auer patented the modern lighter flint in 1903, and production began only in 1907. Based on its construction and style, this piece was produced in the very early period of flint‑wheel lighter history, around the 1910’s–1920’s.
