“Rory Gallagher” was originally published by Polydor in 1971. It was the Irish blues rocker's first solo album after he left the band Taste a year earlier. In the spring of 1971, Gallagher recorded the record with drummer Wilgar Campbell and Gerry McAvoy on bass at Advision Studios in London. Vincent Crane can also be heard on piano in two songs.
A total of ten songs, all of which were written by Gallagher, ultimately made it onto the album. The band perfected it until the recordings in a rehearsal room in the basement of a music store in London's Fulham district. “Rory Gallagher” reached number 32 in the UK charts.
