This antique sandstone statue depicts the Mucalinda Buddha — the Buddha sheltered by the multi-headed naga — executed in the Khmer Baphuon / Angkor Wat style. The figure is shown seated in meditation on a coiled naga base, with the naga’s seven heads fanned above forming a protective canopy. The composition, balanced proportions and carved scale-pattern on the naga reflect the stylistic vocabulary of Angkor-era temple sculpture.
Notable stylistic features include: a serene, slightly angular face with small ushnisha/curled hair, softly modeled torso and robe that falls across one shoulder, and the elaborately carved multi-headed naga with concentric scale and coil details. The statue expresses the classical Khmer fusion of Indian iconography with local sculptural conventions.
