Original real photo postcard (RPPC), dating to approximately 1904–1918 based on the AZO stamp box. The image depicts a Native American chief and child in full regalia, posed before a tipi decorated with a bighorn sheep. Both wear elaborate feathered warbonnets and bone breastplates, with the elder holding a bow and painted shield.
The composition and regalia are strikingly similar in style and period to the well-known portraits of Native leaders made by Frank A. Rinehart and Adolph Muhr during and after the 1898 Indian Congress. While we cannot confirm this photograph is by Rinehart, it strongly matches the era and subject matter of his iconic images.
• Format: Real Photo Postcard (RPPC)
• Era: c. 1904–1918 (AZO back, all 4 triangles up)
• Condition: Very good—sharp image, light toning, unused divided back
• Size: Approx. 3.5” x 5.5”
A compelling and early cultural image with strong visual appeal to collectors of Native American history, RPPCs, and turn-of-the-century Western photography.
