This book remains popular today even though it's sub- title is " A romance of the time ". Published in 1921 ,the writer was quite forward thinking introducing mysticism, the supernatural and the occult into what were essentially romantic novels.

The book is in a reasonably good condition considering it's age, usage and probably long shelf life as well. The cloth boards of a now indiscriminate colour still show clearly the gilt trim and decoration with gilt titling and authors name on the front cover.
The spine has been sun- faded but it still has legible decoration and writing.

The spine shows the books age related problems with cracks down both the front and back edges and also there is a separation of materials at the lower back edge of the spine. The base and crown of the spine are damaged.

Inside all pages are present and intact with no creases and no markings. There is tanning and foxing can be seen on the page edges with some spots of foxing amongst the text itself. After the split seen between the front board and front end sheet the bindings seem to be fairly good. The paper used in this publication is thick and the bottom edge is not so neat as the top.
