This is a parade tin mask in lightly used condition. These masks are made from recycled oil tins. With its big eyes and heavy eyelashes, it is the classic Moreno Mask. The Morenada dance and its accompanying masks honor the historical interaction between the Moors and the Spanish during the Reconquista, particularly the fall of Granada in 1492. While the Moors did not reach Bolivia, their representation in this dance commemorates the broader historical narrative of conquest and cultural blending in Spanish colonial history.

The mask represents a male moreno, reflecting the artistic and cultural expression of the Morenada. Masks are integral to the performance, allowing dancers to embody the characters they represent and to convey the themes of the dance, including resistance, celebration, and cultural identity.
