Impressive pair of vintage brass table lamps, each weighing approximately 9.5 kg (21 lbs) and standing around 55 cm (21.6 inches) high, excluding the shades. These lamps are substantial, high-quality solid brass castings, modelled after the iconic “Marly Horses” sculptures by Guillaume Coustou (1677–1746).

Each lamp is fully functional and fitted with a B22d BC (bayonet cap) bulb holder, with the on/off switch located at the bulb socket. Both lamps retain their original UK plugs. The power cords measure approximately:

• 250 cm (98.4 inches) for one lamp

• 315 cm (124 inches) for the other

The pleated lampshades are finished in complementary dark beige/grey tones, which pair beautifully with the warm golden colour of the brass bases and enhance the sculptural presence of the lamps.

⚜️ About the Design – “Marly Horses” (After Coustou)

The design of these lamps is inspired by the famous “Chevaux de Marly” (Marly Horses), monumental marble sculptures created by Guillaume Coustou the Elder in the early 18th century. Originally commissioned for the Château de Marly by King Louis XV of France, the sculptures depict powerful rearing horses restrained by their grooms, symbolising both raw strength and controlled energy.

The original sculptures are now housed in the Louvre Museum in Paris and are regarded as masterpieces of French Baroque art. Their dramatic composition has inspired countless interpretations in sculpture, decorative arts, and interior design.

This pair of lamps successfully translates that iconic sculptural form into functional lighting, making them striking statement pieces well suited to interiors influenced by classical design, French grandeur, or Hollywood Regency style.
