A rare opportunity for collectors and connoisseurs of modern art: this is an original color woodcut by Salvador Dali, created in 1960 as part of his celebrated Divine Comedy series. Not a reproduction, copy, or reprint—this is the authentic woodcut issued for the Divine Comedy set published by Jean Estrade/Les Heures Claires in Paris. One of 100 wood engravings illustrating 'The Divine Comedy' by Dante Alighieri. From the edition of 4765.
Dalí’s drawings were directly based on Dante’s 14th-century poem, which describes the journey of the soul through Inferno (Hell), Purgatorio (Purgatory), and Paradiso (Heaven). Dalí studied the text carefully, often consulting commentaries and earlier editions to capture the narrative, characters, and symbolic elements.
The Divine Comedy woodcuts were printed on large sheets of fine B.F.K. Rives paper, each bearing the publisher’s italic watermark. Because the images were later cut down to their intended format size, not every impression retained a visible watermark. Some sheets show it clearly, while others from the same edition do not; both are equally original and authentic. Please refer to the 'condition description"
