Experience again Readers Digest 'Easy Listening' music that was a style of popular
music and radio formats that emerged in the mid-20th century, music that
features simple, catchy melodies, soft, laid back songs and occasionally
rhythms suitable for couple dancing. The
earlier 'Easy Listening' genre had rigid standards and restrictions for
instrumentation that included both, instrumental forms like "lush strings
sounds" and also vocal forms. Importantly, do not confuse adult
contemporary or light contemporary music of today to be the same sounds.
Earlier 'Easy Listening music was usually orchestrated by an arranger rather
than improvised by a small ensemble. Easy listening music has sometimes been applied
negatively in the years since it went out of fashion and is also sometimes referred to as "mood music", or "elevator
music". Take time out to experience again the 'Easy Listening' music that
was fashionable at one time, still found on analog format cassettes, a 'truer'
sound and 'genre' lone gone today.
