This original etching by late Pennsylvania based artist Joanne Isaac depicts the Stover's Mill Gallery in Erwinna, PA. A beloved artist in her nearby community of Quakertown, Pennsylvania, Isaac studied at both the Parsons School of Design and Yale University School of Fine Arts. Before beginning her printmaking process. Isaac would draw, etch, print, hand-color, and frame all of her own work, making each piece a unique, treasured find.
This is an advertisement for one of Joanne Isaac's exhibitions at the Stover's Mill Gallery in Erwinna, PA in August of 1990. Joanne was present to sign prints on August 26th from 2-3PM. The advertisement is a mailer sent to friends, Charlene and Bill of Perkasie, Pennsylvania. Included in my store are a number of original etching season's greetings shared between the couples.
The Stover Mill is a historic, American grist mill that is located in Erwinna, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Built with Pennsylvania fieldstone by Henry Stover in 1832, this historic structure is a 3+1⁄2-story, mill building with the first two floors made from native stone and the upper stories made with brick. This mill is unusual in that it takes its power directly from the Delaware River. The gallery has been exhibiting art of area artists since 1959. To this day, the building still operates as an art gallery which is sponsored by the Tinicum Civic Association. There are seven monthly shows from April to October annually.
Also included in this offering is one of Joanne Isaac's business cards, itself an original etching!
When asked how long it takes to produce an individual etching, Isaac said, "58 years. It took 58 years of experience to do (etchings) in a manner that might seem fast to somebody else."
Collections include UNICEF, the U.S. Embassy in Paris, New Ginkaku Yedoya in Kyoto, Honolulu Academy of Fine Arts, Free Library of PA, and New York Public Library. Joanne Isaac collections have been exhibited internationally.
