Attention Plate Number and/or Yorktown Specialists!!
The bi-color Scott #703 2c Yorktown issue of 1931 is one of the most collectable mint sheets ever issued because of the literally hundreds of plate number combinations that exist. The sheets were printed with plate numbers at the top and bottom of each sheet and depending on whether the sheet was on the left side of the press sheet or the right side, the plate numbers could be black/red or red/black.
It was produced in two formats, a "First Layout" with 16 red plate numbers, and 22 black plate numbers and plate numbers on the top and bottom, making over 350 potential combinations. The First Layout sheets were cut with selvage on one side and a straight line on the other side. The "Second Layout" had 8 red plate numbers and 16 black plate numbers for 128 combinations. It is identified not only by the different plate numbers but also by the presence of marking arrows at top and bottom and selvage on both the left and right sides.
The title and image above gives you the plate numbers, "1st" or "2nd" layouts, the sheet's position as a left side (black/red) or right side (red/black), and overall centering. No stock images are used--the sheet in the image is the one you will receive. Minor perf seps and creases in the selvage and some curling are common on these nearly 100 year-old mint sheets. Any other issues will be visible on the image or mentioned in the description.
I have about 35 of these combinations as full sheets, and another 30 partial sheets of 35 or 40, all available as separate listings. I have set up a separate store category (703 Yorktown) to make it easier to search.
I combine domestic shipping on 703 mint sheet orders subject to the following rules: 1) Please put all the mint sheets you want in your shopping cart, then place a single order for everything; 2) Please wait for me to send you an invoice with the total shipping charge before making your payment.
