Here is a beautiful Edwin and Mary Scheier studio combined fish/figure decorated coupe shaped vase. Brown flambe glazed with a bisque slip band and incised line decoration, It measures 5 1/4 inches tall and 5 5/8 inches in diameter. Thrown by Mary and made of their beige clay. It is in great condition with no chips, cracks, firing flaws, or repairs. Signed Scheier inside the foot. Durham New Hampshire c. 1965. The Scheiers taught ceramics at the University of New Hampshire from the late 1930's through the late 1960's and were contemporaries of Gertrude and Otto Natzler, Beatrice Wood, and Maija Grotell. An excellent piece of mid-century modern ceramics.
