This is a Radioshack (Archer brand) audio jack adapter / converter. It is a mono adapter (can be used with mics, electric guitars, mono headset/headphone, etc). This is used to convert a thick 1/4" (6.35mm) plug into the miniature 3.5mm size (i.e. the size that used to be standard on iPhones). Mono plugs have one ring. Archer was the Radio Shack brand for radio, antenna, and similar products. This was made in Korea. This is a vintage item, from the 1980s or early 1990s and is a good quality, brand name component. If you are not sure if you need a mono, stereo, or another kind of adapter, look at the number of rings on the plug of your cord. One black ring would indicate mono. Note that if you are using this to plug into a phone, you might also need a TRRS adapter (depending on the phone). I used one of these along with a Y-cable made for a mic and headphones; that combined the mono mic and the stereo headphones into one TRRS mini-jack. Info:
