Century Rapid Rectilinear 4x5 f5.6? Lens Converted to M42 Focus & Aperture
Century Rapid Rectilinear 4x5 f5.6? Lens Converted to M42 with Focusing & Aperture Control. The lens is in average condition. The lens has some dust. The lens has been converted and the mount modified to fit M42 mount (converted to be used on a digital camera). The lens is over 100 years old. Most likely it was made prior to 1915. I'm not sure how fast the lens is, since the f-stop scale was before the scale was standardize. The aperture scale starts at 256, followed by 128, 64, 52, 16 and 8. The last number on the scale is "1". So, the f5.6 is a guesstimate. Lens includes generic front and rear lens caps.
Information on the conversion. The shutter blades are missing in the shutter, and I do not believe that the shutter can be made to work again. The lens is mounted to a series of extensions tubes, and adapter rings. Some of the components are permanently mounted, since they were not a exact fit to the tubes. The lens can be removed to be able to clean the glass. The last tube is a variable extension tube to achieve focusing. Since the variable tube has such a short focusing range, it's best to use a camera with live view, (sadly my Nikon does not). Also, any adapter needs to be flush or as close to flush as possible to the camera body. If the adapter is any thicker, most likely you will not to be able to focus the lens.
Regarding the sample images. The Nikon body is shown as an example of the mount. The grain elevator (taken through window in my work area) was taken with the focusing close to infinity. The Pokemon camera was about 5 feet and the Kodak sign was about 20 feet. Please note! The Nikon camera, the Pokemon camera, the Kodak sign and the grain elevator are not included with the listing.
