Specimens exhibiting the distinctive dioptase from the
renowned Christmas Mine are highly sought after, with the dioptase-kinoite
association from this locality being even more desirable. According to
Arkenstone, dioptase from this mine is among the most recognizable specimens
globally. The accompanying kinoite, a rare hydrous copper calcium silicate, is
known to occur exclusively in the United States and two other countries, as
stated by Mindat.
This TN showcases emerald-green dioptase in needle-like
stellate sprays and bowties, alongside bright blue Kinoite crystals that
sparkle like tiny gemstones. The kinoite occurs both as free-standing crystals
(which is unusual), and as inclusions within glassy, water-clear apophyllite*
crystals. The extinct mine is one of Arizona's most esteemed mineral localities
and a classic U.S.A. site.
