Lemon Mint 

Botanic name: Mentha x piperita f. citrata 'Lemon' 


This mint has light pink flowers and pale furry leaves.  Mints with less glossy, more “furry” leaves cope better with full sun, so this plant will thrive in a range of locations as long as it has enough water and food.

All mints prefer damp, partly shaded areas and once established will grow for many years.

 In colder areas, mints may die down in winter but will send up new shoots in spring.

Lemon Mint is a rampant grower and will take over a garden bed if not restrained. One way to contain mint is to use an old bottomless bucket pushed into the ground. The mint won't be able to put its roots out sideways, so will take longer to spread. If grown in a pot, mint needs to be watered and fed regularly to keep it healthy.

The flavour of lemon mint is less intense than some of its relatives making it useful when a more subtle mint flavour is required.

As with all mints, lemon mint has restorative qualities, can help relieve nausea and flatulence and a cooled infusion can help to treat minor burns, itching and skin irritations and can help clear up skin disorders such as acne.

 

 All my plants are grown on the far south coast of NSW. They are raised from cuttings, divisions and sometimes seeds and spend all of their time outside in the elements.  For this reason they are hardy and used to the conditions typical in my part of Australia, including summer heat a mild to medium frosts.

Plants are sent via Australia Post’s parcel service with tracking.  Postage discounts are available for bulk purchases.  If you require any additional services, such as registration or sign on delivery, please let me know before completing checkout so your invoice can be updated. 

Plants are sent without a pot but still in soil, wrapped in damp newspaper then in a plastic bag secured with an elastic band.  This ensures the plants travel with minimal disturbance meaning they will recover and start growing more quickly.  Some plants may be trimmed but this causes them no damage whatsoever.

Plants and packaging are prepared over the weekend and all plants are posted on Mondays giving them as little time as possible in transit.  Plants are packed carefully to prevent damage to roots, stems or foliage. 

Due to quarantine rules plants can only be sent to Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, ACT and the Northern Territory.
