Based on our research this is an early Cochiti Pueblo pottery effigy made by Damacia Cordero (1905-1987)
Her work is highly collectible. She made human and animal figurines from the 1920’s-80’s. As this is an unsigned piece and similar to her other early pieces it is thought that this piece dates from the 1920’s-50’s after which point it became more common for her to sign her pieces. The elongated body form and rounded face/head are diagnostic of her work. There is some minor tape residue which we have not made any effort to remove or clean. There is also a small scrape or “pop” near the right rear leg on the body.
This piece measures 7” in length and 3.5” in height.
