W & R Jacob & Co Ltd (Jacob's Ltd)  "Sylvan" biscuit tin     c1959

A very hard to find Jacob's tin - especially in this condition. There is one example in Reading Museum, who date it to 1959 and describe it thus:

A cream cracker-shaped tin with illustrations of fishing scenes in embossed golden rocaille panels on the lid and sides. It has a light turquoise blue background with floral motifs.

The images on this tin suggest the world of an eighteenth-century leisured gentleman. The overall style is similar to that of several tins which imitate Royal Worcester pottery.

The example here originally contained an assortment of biscuits as evidenced by the sticker which remains attached (mostly!) to the base. The tin also retains the original "Sylvan" label to the lid - I cannot find any other examples listed in the last three years that do - and even some of what appears to be the original sealing tape around the lid edge.

In very sound condition, given its age. There is probably some colour fade to the image on the lid. Small scuff top left corner of panel on lid, and a small mark towards bottom right of panel. A very minor dent to top centre edge of lid and some light rubbing in places. Label on base has peeling to two corners and slight loss to another. Interior sound with rubbing but no rust.

This is essentially in original condition - I have not attempted any significant cleaning - it may be possible to restore it to a higher standard than shown here.
