Bass Toby Light Ale, a beer originally brewed by the Charrington Brewery, has a rich history, evolving from a London brewery to a major UK brewing company, Bass Charrington, and eventually becoming part of the Bass brand after mergers and acquisitions, with the brewing operations eventually being acquired by Interbrew (now Anheuser-Busch InBev).
  • History and Origins:
    • The Bass Brewery was founded in 1777 by William Bass.
    • Bass became the largest brewery in the world by 1877, with an annual output of one million barrels.
    • The company's distinctive red triangle became the UK's first registered trademark.
    • Bass was exported throughout the British Empire and is still enjoyed in pubs around the world.
  • Brewing and Taste:
    • Bass is a pale ale, brewed with English malts and hops.
    • It is brewed with two strains of traditional ale yeast, resulting in a complex, nutty, malty taste with subtle hop undertones.
    • It has a light, amber color and a light, burned, roast aroma.
  • Current Production:
    • Since Interbrew's takeover in 2000, Bass is brewed under license in Leuven, Belgium.
    • The beer is brewed at 5% ABV.
  • Global Presence:
    • Bass was the first foreign beer to be sold in Japan in 1860.
    • Draught Bass has been exported to America since at least 1966.
    • In 2001, 66,500,000 litres of Bass were sold in the United States.
    • Bass is served on draught and in bottles and cans in more than 50 countries.
    • Bass ale is frequently used as the bottom ingredient in a Black and Tan, a two-layer beverage where a stout is poured on top of the pale ale.
