2007-S 25C Clad Utah Statehood Quarter -- Struck on Elliptical Clip -- PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS. 74 gns. Coins are struck from planchets, which in turn are punched out from coinage strip. Incomplete planchets are "clipped" in error parlance, and have various causes, such as a damaged or defective planchet punch. Many clips, though not all, are screened by riddlers and melted at the Mint. The present proof Utah quarter lacks a rim between 9 and 12 o'clock, relative to the statehood side, where the planchet was incomplete and failed to extend to the collar die during the strike. On the Washington side, traces of the copper core are apparent along the clip border.
