A antique Victorian novelty Inkwell, in the form of a beautiful patinated bronze Owls head, hinge mounted onto brass dish shaped base. It has been skilfully modelled and finished with hand chased feathers, and also features a hooked beak and vivid yellow glass eyes. It has a rope border around the base of the head, and opens to reveal the original glass and brass fitted liner, which sits in a fitted receptacle. It is a impressive size, measuring 8 1/8" or 20.5 cm wide x 5 1/4" or 133 mm high and weighs 1580 grams or 3lb 7oz. It dates to the late Victorian period, and is in good condition, as shown in photos.
