A VERY PRETTY 4d PALE ORANGE KANGAROO: MINT (ORIGINAL GUM) WITH HINGE TRACES - VERY FRESH FRONT - GREAT CENTERING AND 'FLUFFY' PERFORATIONS - 2025 ACSC15D CV$650 [PALE ORANGE MLH]

The 1st Watermark 4d ORANGE was printed by J.B. COOKE off two Plates and issued on 12 February 1913. Only two 'covers' are recorded dated Sydney, 19 February 1913. They were printed from two Plates (Plate 1 ~ Upper and Plate 2 ~ Lower) each with 120 stamps-on, in two Panes of 60, each in 10 horizontal rows of 6. These marsupials were used as the combined registration fee and letter rate within Australia and the British Empire. There were some 6,000,000 'oranges' printed in one single printing in February 1913. THE AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH SPECIALISTS’ CATALOGUE “KANGAROOS” (2025 ACSC) lists the MINT LIGHTLY HINGED version of the PALE ORANGE at $650. This one has full original gum (with typical gum disturbance at hinge location AND A SOFT GUM BEND BARELY NOTICEABLE FROM THE FRONT). A lovely Aussie marsupial.
