We go to estate sales regularly and come across a wide array of unique and rare items. We add to our growing online inventory daily. We pick up new items from all over the world and all over the US. We also have a growing customer wish list. If you'd like to, feel free to add us to your saved seller's list and let us know what you collect and/or need. We’d be honored to add you to our customer wish list.
We ask what we consider to be a fair price for anything we sell and understand that our idea of a fair price may be someone else's 'that's too much' price. If that's the case, feel free to make us an offer and will consider it. We also have sales regularly, so check back often.
There is always a Sale by TheBay!
We bid on several lots of items of an online estate sale/auction for a lady who had passed away by the name of Mary Clemon Payne back in 2018. Mary Payne was the Executive Secretary for the Stone Mountain Memorial Association when it was formed to run Stone Mountain in 1958. Some of you may recall one of the trains that ran at Stone Mountain that was named The Mary Payne Train. It has since been replaced of course, but the park named it after her in her honor for her years of dedication to the park. You can read Mary's obituary online to learn more about the wonderful woman she was.
Mary had a plethora of incredible Stone Mountain memorabilia and we were able to obtain quite a few very cool items, many of which are certainly one of a kind. We will be listing some items over the coming days, so if you're into Stone Mountain collectibles, we guarantee you that we'll be listing some items you are all but certain to never see for sale again.
Now onto the item for sale.
For sale is a pair of 4" x 5" color photographs of the covered bridge at Stone Mountain.
As you can see, both shots are taken from nearly the exact same spot. One shot has some snow on the roof of the covered bridge and on the sides of the roadway. The other shot doesn't have any snow, but almost all of the leaves of the tall tree on the far right side have already fallen and the remaining ones are yellow.
If you know Georgia weather, this photo would be late fall and perhaps even early winter. For example, it's February 1 today and it's in the 60s right now and temps are climbing into the mid 70s this week. A few of weeks ago, it was in the teens and we had snow on the ground and then it snowed again about a week later. However, since there are still a small number of leaves on the tall tree and more leaves on the smaller trees, we trust this would be the earlier part of winter at the latest.
Mary had ten 4" by 5" photos in a folder, including this one, that were attached to the black paper pages as shown in the last photo above. When we removed the pages from the folder, most of the photos detached from the paper, so we detached the rest of them. We trust all of these photos were from the same roll of film.
Each photo has 'This paper manufactured by Kodak' printed on the back. We know that Kodak began printing this on the back of their photo paper in 1972 through the early 1990s. From 1961 to 1972, the back of their paper merely read 'A Kodak Paper'.
We are near certain that this photo would date to 1972 shortly after the carving was completed and that Mary Payne took it herself. Several of the photos were of the memorial carving and the photos were certainly from the same roll of film. Given that she saw the carving and park every day, we'd imagine she would've taken pictures of the completed carving right after it was completed.
PLEASE NOTE: We have several photographs and other historical items from Stone Mountain. Feel free to take a look at what we still have available and as always, we're happy to combine shipping.
These photos are both in excellent condition with great gloss. As you can see, the back of the photos have some small remnants from the black paper page on it that it was previously attached to.
These photos will be shipped in a padded envelope via insured ground advantage with the USPS. We put all our items that ship in padded envelopes in between cardboard for extra protection during shipping.
Thanks for looking and God bless!
