Vintage and scarce folding knife in the classic Laguiole style handcrafted by the french
Coutellerie Rossignol knife forge in the tiny village of Laguiole, France from the 1980's.
Every knife of theirs has been crafted with pride by a single master cutler,
ensuring that each masterpiece is unique to its craftsman's work ethic!
Laguiole pattern knives are the most famous of the French regional style knives originating
in the early / mid 19th century with the current footprint being established in the 1860's
as a blend of local straight bladed 'laguiole droit' and the Spanish navaja folders which
the story goes were introduced to the region from seasonally migrating French
shepherds who brought them back from Spain after the winter months.
There are plenty of stories told about the bee or mouche (fly) design on
the backspring as well as the cross shaped pins on the handle.
Blade made of high qualitative 440 stainless steel. Handle made of brass
linings and bolsters with polished wooden scales with brass rivets.
Forged spring decorated by serial guilloche with the traditional honeybee.
The blade of the knife is marked with: LAGUIOLE, ROSSIGNOL
with the brand logo of the company - a bird and umbrella.
The ricasso of the blade is stamped on the one side with:
8390 and on the reverse side of the ricasso with: 440.
Nail nick opening. Slipjoint blade system.
Complete with its original of the brand leather pouch for storage.
The knife is in overall excellent preserved authentically condition for its age -
NOS (New Old Stock). Unused blade with some oxidation on the brass parts.
The spring of the knife is strong and tight.
The blade is firmly attached to the handle without any play.
