  • Stout craftsmanship, with punctilious use of iron caps and strapping

  • Lid held securely with a long strap hinge with through lock —untested, key absent
  • Opens to reveal a lined and painted interior and held upon a hinged bracket
  • Maker's mark across the leading edge for J.J. Peters & Co, a Bristol silversmiths

  • Remnant of an aged travel label tantalises across the lid edge
  • Graced with an engraved name plaque to the fascia, reading W.H. Clarke Esq
  • Dressed with pairs of cast iron drop handles to each end for carriage
