Ernie Irvan won the Miller Genuine Draft 400 at Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Virgina. Driving Robert Yates's #28 Texaco-Havoline Ford, Irvan led 88 laps of the 400-lap NASCAR Winston Cup Series race. Jeff Gordon finished second in Rick Hendrick's #24 DuPont Refinishes Chevrolet, with Jeff Burton in Jack Roush's #99 Exide Ford, Dale Jarrett in Robert Yates's #88 Quality Care / Ford Credit Ford, and Terry Labonte in Rick Hendrick's #5 Kellogg's Corn Flakes Chevrolet rounding out the top five.
