AUSTRALIA $1.25 Holey & Dump set 2001 'Centenary of Federation'
Minted by the Perth Mint to commemorate Australia's Centenary of Federation in 2001

Australia became a Commonwealth nation on 1 January 1901 , when it's six independent British colonies came together as a Federation.

The Holly Dollar and Dump were the first legal tender coins used in Australia, introduced by Govenor Lachlan Macquarie 1813. Because British coins were scarce , he punched out the centre of Spanish silver eight reale coins(Known as "pieces of eight") to make two coins known as the Holey Dollar & Dump.

This Holey Dollar and Dump coin celebrates this important milestone in Australian History. It comprises two pure silver coins which fit together in a unique way.

The central "Dump"coin is star shaped and features an intricate depiction of Australia's Federal Parliament House in Canberra. The Perth Mint's traditional "P" mintmark and the dates 1901-2001 are also incorporated in the design.

The 1oz coin is struck from 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.

The Holey Dollar portrays the official badges of each Australian State and the Northern Territory, positioned around the star shaped internal border of the coin.

Limited to an issue of 30,000, the pair were housed, encapsulated, in a distinctively shaped blue, hinged-lid box coloured to represent a waving Australian Flag and accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity.

The 1oz coin is struck from 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.
